Goldcorp and Agnico Eagle Facing Strong Resistance

Written by  seekinGold Tuesday, 08 February 2011 22:41

The yellow metal is on an uptrend but things could change soon as metal is headed to the resistance area as shown in the chart below. The volume is dropping although the MACD shows a bullish crossover. Some large cap miners are also at their resistance area. If either gold or the miners fail to overcome this area we are going to see a trend reversal. The outlook is neutral to bearish for the metal.

Gold price trend feb8

On the positive side, we are nearing the earning season and miners could rise in expectation of good earnings. Options market is betting Goldcorp and Agnico Eagle will rise. The PEG ratio is also below one, an indication they are undervalued. The PEG ratio is the ratio of the P/E to the expected future earnings growth rate of the company. A better measure than PE since it considers future growth as well. Data by Kapital.

Goldcorp Feb8

Goldcorp PEG at 0.42. Current Put/Call ratio at 0.46 vs. previous Put/Call ratio at 0.61 (24.59% change). Short float at 0.73%, which implies a short ratio of 0.84 days. The stock has gained 17.89% over the last year.

agnico feb8

Agnico Eagle PEG at 0.74. Current Put/Call ratio at 0.51 vs. previous Put/Call ratio at 0.57 (10.53% change). Short float at 4.69%, which implies a short ratio of 3.23 days.
